Opponents of health care reform efforts have accused the President and Democrats in Congress of including millions of illegally present immigrants in proposals to expand health insurance coverage. Whether one thinks that including such individuals is good or bad, the fact is that only lawfully present immigrants will be eligible for inclusion in the various proposals being considered in Congress. Think Progress explains in a piece refuting erroneous reporting on Lou Dobbs show (surprised?). When you hear figures like 97% of people will be covered under the broadest plans, the 3% they're talking about leaving out are undocumented immigrants.

On November 27, the USCIS announced that they had received 58,900 H-1B petitions toward the 65,000 cap. So there are 6,100 numbers remaining, correct? (Update: By December 4, the USCIS had received 61,100 H-1B petitions toward the 65,000 cap.) Not exactly. We have Free Trade Agreements with both Singapore and Chile which set aside 6,800 "H-1B1" numbers for nationals of those countries. Do the math: 65,000 minus 6,800 equals 58,200. I'm looking for PHP or ActionScript work. I'm not a designer in any sense of the word, so I can't do any graphical work. I'm just starting out, so my protfolio is lacking but I have done several full blown CMSs lately. I've never gotten a problem I couldn't solve, I just need to prove myself.

Its absolutely useless as it does think that within 60 months the people will get the GC after applying for the I485. I am sure, ut will much more than that.

Hi,
I have filed my 485 on July 2007. I am currently working using EAD and last time entered US in Feb 09 using AP. My current AP is valid till Oct 17 2009. I will be going out of the country for few days in early Sep. I wanted to know can I apply for my renewal of AP now. I read the following in the I-131 filing instructions (page-4)
If you travel before the advanced parole document is issued, your application will be deemed abandoned if:
1. You depart the United States; or
2. The person seeking advance parole attempts to enter the United States before a decision is made on the application

So can I apply for my AP renewal now (I am assuming if I apply now it won't get approved before my travel in Sep) or do I need to first complete my travel in Sep, come back to US and then apply for the renewal.
Please reply.
