Maintaining GC is a big hassle you have to return every year (2years for the first time i think). Couple of Infosys blokes (with GC) that i know had discussed this with the company before joining and the company sent them within 2years on a short term projects to the US.
If you have a US citizenship then you can opt for a dual citizenship. That might help you get a job directly in India (dont know the rules, just guessing)

Marriage, kids, school, house, GC...Citizenship...it kinds of gets on you. And before you know, your kids are making the decision for you. I know of a couple of families with grown up kids who moved back to India only to move back to US because the "kids could not adjust". It's not hard to read between the lines that "we also could not adjust".
As days go by, it is becoming more clear everyday that I will also return back one day, sooner rather than later. I have some questions that haunt me:
- if/when I get my GC, and if I return back, is there a way to hold on to the GC status?
- if someone has a US citizenship, when companies such as Infosys hire them, do they have to get a work visa or something? Is there a concept equivalent of H1/GC for non Indians yet?

My company filed labor application on 13th September 2010 and it was approved on 2nd November 2010. Now getting ready for I-140. I thought I will share this info with the forum

I feel like giving up today after I saw a friend of mine leaving to india with a US Citizenship and an overseas citizen of india card.
The irony is he applied two months after me in the same category except his application was from a different state.
Now it makes me think, if I have to go through this process and after 5 years if I end up like my friend, then I might as well do it now...:confused:
Going back after US citizenship makes sense. He can come back when he wants and also get social security, medicare etc
But going back before that is defeat.

We applied in Nebraska in August 2003, Cleared in State on August 29th 2003, Transferred to Chicago DOL on Sept 1st 2003..Got Certfied on Oct 16th 2003...So yes..in some states Labor was VERY Quick.

This was one one of John Kerry's Presidential campaign proposals. you saw what happened right. As the other member said it would be something very difficult to get pass by rule makers.
How about something like,
If a person has stayed in US for 10+ (or 7+years) years and has filed taxes(verified thourgh 1040s), he should be given GC. No questions asked(other than the ones the affect security of USA)

I am just a reader of IV but this article made me to reply and below are my thoughts regarding the PM

This is specifically for those people who have never contributed but feel like contributing but for some reason hesitate to pull the trigger. For all such people who start a monthly contribution of $50 and promise (not to me or anyone else but themselves) to keep contributing for at least the next 6 months, I am going to make a one-time contribution of $50 for every such person. If "you" meant me then FYI, I have contributed before and will be contributing again. I am no sencond thoughts on what IV core memebers are trying to achive and why they need money. I completely understand the need.
What am I saying is IV has done everything for Lame Duck session to try and get the bill passed. More money then would not have helped is what I think. Yes we could do better from the lessons we learnt from that day. We definetly need money for all this purpose. Most of the members here understand that and want to contribute too but you cannot expect everyone to be in a position to contribute due to various factors.
But you should not say that you are spending a lot of money on lawyers but members pay lawyers as there is no alternative. You would not be a part of IV if your GC is not filed and affected by retrogression. To get to being retrogressed you should pay the lawyers as without labor and i-140 you are not there yet.
Senator sessions was the key due to the lame duck session rules but going forward as i understand a majority can pass the bill..not ever one need to vote for the bill.
Money would help core do activities like setting up the web site, faxes, going to DC, educating law makers...nothing comes free in this world.
I am sure core team would like to post the account details on this web site and be done with it. And may be list down the number of hours and money they have spent from their personal accounts too. But there are some issues with that. We can always call them up for details if that is what is holding you from contributing. Its only a phone call away.
